For a Bike Under $1000, Very Good
Great bike for the money.
Girlfriend wanted a an upgraded bike she could use to keep up with me on trail riding, and that could be used for sprint Bikejor racing, we chose this bike. She wanted a 27.5" bike with with modern geometry, hydraulic disk brakes, a 1x drivetrain, and an air fork be more responsive while saving some weight over a coil fork. This bike fit the bill, and was only one of two that were under 1k; the other was the 2020 Vitus Nucleus 27 VRS (Deore 1x10).
Pros: Modern geometry, Shimano BR-MT200 brakes work great, the 1x10 shadow plus deore derailleur was quick, responsive and perfectly adjusted out of the box, decent tires that were setup with tubes that had solid metal Schrader valve stems, and most importantly for her a comfortable seat.
The only con of this bike is the Suntour XCR airspring fork. Since this is the most entry air fork you can get, I wasn't expecting wonders, but it did fall short. The main issue is that even after adjusting compression pressure and rebound, the fork is slow and stiff feeling when compressing and extending. Reaching out to Suntour, they suggested breaking it in a little, then do a service and re-greasing the inner stanchions. Another small con, she feels the peddles are too slippery, we will get some more grippy flats. Otherwise this was a great bike, worth the money.
